Map South Hockey posted a 2-0-1 record and holds a one-point lead in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League Hockey standings following the first weekend of regular season play.

Eight teams played three games apiece in Week One in New Hope, and every team picked up at least one point. Only one team -- northeastern Minnesota player-stocked Kowalski’s -- failed to record a victory. 


Game-by-game results:

• TDS Transportation 7, Twin Cities Orthopedics 4

Teddy Townsend (Eden Prairie) scored two goals and Jack Hochsprung stopped 42 of 46 shots for TDS (1-0). Jordan Ronn (Champlin Park) had a goal and an assist for TCO (0-1).

• SIT Mutual Funds 6, Team Wisconsin 5

Tyler Geyer (Gentry Academy) scored three goals and added an assist for SIT (1-0). Hayden Rising had 42 stops for Team Wisconsin (0-1), with Carsen Gause (Wisconsin Rapids), Jack McGregor (River Hills) and Kyle Rohrer (Oregon) all collecting a goal and assist.

• Sanford Power 5, Kowalski’s 2

Tyler Hennen (Kittson Central) had two goals and an assist and Noel Olsonawski (Shanley) recorded 29 saves for Sanford Power (1-0), which scored two unanswered third-period goals to power past their northeastern Minnesota opponents in both team’s league opener. Andrew Larson (Duluth Denfeld) and Gus Drennen (Grand Rapids) scored for Kowalski’s (0-1).

• Map South Hockey 8, MPLS ST. PAUL Magazine 3

Jake Fischer (Cretin-Derham Hall) scored a league season-high four goals and Tommy Cronin (St. Thomas Academy) recorded five points (1 goal, 4 assists) for Map South (1-0). Nolan Roed (White Bear Lake) had a goal and an assist for MPLS ST. PAUL (0-1).

• MPLS ST. PAUL Magazine 2, Kowalski’s 1

Nolan Roed scored the game-winner late in the second period to help lift MPLS ST. PAUL Magazine to a 2-0 start. Drake Ramirez also scored for the winners, just :30 after Ben Dollscored to give Kowalski’s (0-2) a 1-0 lead early in the second period. 

• Team Wisconsin 7, Sanford Power 5

Team Wisconsin (1-1) scored five answered goals after trailing 4-2 early in the second period. Adam Timm (Chetek) scored three goals and an assist for the winners. Aaron Reierson (Moorhead) had a goal and an assist for Sanford (1-1). 

• Map South Hockey 8, Twin Cities Orthopedics 6

League scoring leader Jake Fischer (Cretin-Derham Hall) had two goals and five points to keep Map South Hockey unbeaten (2-0). TCO (0-2) trailed 7-2 after one period.

• SIT Mutual Funds 6, TDS Transportation 4

Jackson Nevers (Edina) scored two goals for SIT (2-0), which was outshot 63-47. TDS fell to 1-1. 

• Sanford Power 6, SIT Mutual Funds 3

Six different players scored for Sanford (2-1), which prevailed by scoring three unanswered goals in the third period. 

• Kowalski’s 3, Map South Hockey 3

Forward Andrew Larson (Duluth Denfeld) scored an even-strength goal with :42 remaining in regulation, as Kowalski’s (0-2-1) rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period. Luca Rohloff had two goals for Kowalski’s. Three different players scored for Map South Hockey (2-0-1). 

• MPLS ST. PAUL Magazine 4, TDS Transportation 4

Ty Tuccitto (Stillwater) scored with :53 remaining in regulation to lift MPLS ST. PAUL Magazine to a tie, and teammate Bradley Walker (Orono) added a pair of goals. Teddy Townsend (Eden Prairie) had a goal and an assist for TDS (1-1-1).

• Twin Cities Orthopedics 7, Team Wisconsin 5

Jordan Ronn (Champlin Park) and Tanner Rausch (Armstrong-Cooper) scored back-to-back goals :30 apart in the third period to power TCO to the victory.
