Warroad defeats monticello 7-1 in the Class 1a Quarterfinal

Mr. Hockey finalist Daimon Gardner scored three goals and junior linemate Jayson Shaugabay added a goal and three assists to power second-seeded Warroad to a 7-1, running-time victory over Monticello in a Minnesota Class 1A quarterfinal Wednesday afternoon at Excel Energy Center.

Sophomore forward Carson Pilgrim contributed two goals and junior Hampton Slukynsky stopped 18 of 19 shots for the Warriors, who peppered Moose goaltender Michael Biller with 48 shots.

Junior forward Quintin Brooks scored a rebound goal to give Monticello a 1-0 lead at 10:44 of the first period.
